So excited!! Tomorrow the kids and I are going on a field trip to the Art Institute of Chicago!! It was organized by the Plainfield home school group and the lady who arranged it is getting us in for free with a guided tour!! Can't wait.
Okay the problem is, and I am ashamed to admit this, but I have never driven to Chicago by myself. And I am a little intimidated. So we are going to leave very early and just hang out down town if we get there too early.
So with Faith as my co-pilot we will be making our way through the city tomorrow.
Wish us luck!!

You are going to do great! No worries. Did you forget that you used to drive in Phoenix? What could be worse than that :)
CHICAGO!!!
I don't blame you for being intimidated! We were back there last summer and I was extremely grateful that Aunt Sandi did the driving.
Say a prayer, leave early, and breathe deep breaths. You can do it!

You will do great! Not that I have done it yet myself, only lived here 10 years! Have a wonderful time, think of how good it will feel to put that on your list of accomplishments!!
Hey, Honey-you can do it-I have confidence in you. I will not wish you luck, but I will wish you Godspeed and let God take you there and bring you back. Have a great time-can't weait to hear about it!
PS besides, if I could drive to Nashville-in the dark-in the rain-catch a plane to Charlotte and stay with your kids through a hurricane and a tornado-YOU CAN DO IT!!
Kristen,
In Houston this morning I was watching CNN and they cut to a story talking about a bad traffic snarl in Chicago -- worst they had ever seen, tens of thousands late for work. I looked a little closer at the video feed and saw that the snarl was caused by a Kia Minivan driving too slowly in the left hand lane on I-55 heading north into the city.
You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?!
Seriously, Chicago traffic isn't bad as long as you keep one hand on the wheel, your foot on the brake, and your other hand on the horn!
Todd :-)
Chicago driving hints:
Never let 'em see you sweat
Don't wait for someone to let you in--take the space
Cab drivers don't use brakes
Signaling means nothing
Most people driving downtown on the weekends are just as frightened.
Enjoy the aggression outlet
Take nothing personally
Imagine all the mean drivers with slap cards on their bumpers.
If you'll sign a waiver, I'd be glad to drive you. I kind of like it.
Or...
relax, enjoy the day and who cares how long it takes to get anywhere
